Pilgrim leaves his bag of cures behind and proceeds toward the King’s Chamber where he learns he must also leave his afflictions and proceed only with his bag of sins and the bloodstained robe of the King’s son. There, in the King’s Chamber, his sins are destroyed and his afflictions transcended. Upon leaving he learns he will always keep his afflictions since they bring him back to the King.
