This sketch is the second in a three-part series of Christmas drama in reader’s theater format. It can be used individually, or as part of the series. In any case, these scripts seek to examine the familiar nativity narrative from a fresh perspective. By now Mary and Joseph have recovered from the shock of this baby’s invasion into their otherwise placid lives. They’re in Bethlehem now for the census. Remember, we often have a habit of translating everything we now know about the story back onto the original participants. But they did not know what we know, and the resulting confusion leaks out in this portrayal. It’s a very human look at very normal people touched by a supernatural invasion into their humanity.
